Changing the world a little at a time
The mission of Water and Education International (WEI) is to combat poverty and disease while promoting education, sustainability, wellness and nutrition by providing safe water and educational opportunities to the underprivileged of the global community thereby improving their quality of life
Our Mission Trips
WEI believe that an integral part of helping underdeveloped countries, is actively participating with the re-building process. Building relationships and knowing what the people want is equally important. We work directly with village leaders to give them the help they need. Our philosophy is not to impose our western culture upon them. We respect the Haitian culture and work with them to help.
WEI schedules mission trips 3-4 times a year. We are aiming for once a quarter. These personalized visits insure that donations are being spent towards the projects we sponsor. We keep our records current regarding the students and families being helped.
Our mission trips are usually one week in length. It is a continuous work effort. Getting to the remote villages is a tedious task. Upon arrival, we head directly to the market to purchase large bags of rice and beans. It is much easier to buy the food there, than to ship directly from the United States. Once we purchase the food, we pack them in trucks and head out for the communities.
By the time we arrive, there are usually lines of people waiting for food and medicine. Some people walk 30 miles with their families for a modest meal of beans and rice.
Participating in these mission trips is one of the hardest jobs. You will never have enough food for everyone and sometimes, families will be turned away. That is one of the difficult parts of mission work.
